There are literally hundreds of top class resorts in the Maldives, and knowing which resorts are great for honeymooners is almost impossible! Lucky for you, we’ve done the hard work of checking out the resorts, and this is a shortlist of our favourites for romance.
Anantara Kihavah Villas. This is very much a boutique, luxury style resort. Perfect if you’re looking for privacy, seclusion and to be pampered. Your villa comes with a Butler to look after your every whim, there’s one of the longest pools in the Maldives, an underwater restaurant and bar and an overwater Spa. The villas are huge and all rooms include a private pool. Just launched, the resort now offers a stunning SKY – the Maldives first overwater observatory, with the most powerful telescope in the Indian Ocean!
Anantara Veli Resort & Spa. This resort offers a huge array of dining options as you can also take a boat over to sister property, Anantara Dhigu. There are 8 restaurants to choose from. This resort is renowned for being romantic, excellent dining and outstanding service. All rooms are overwater.
Angsana Ihuru Maldives. This may be a 4 star resort, but you’ll still feel like you’re in a decadent heaven. Staff go out of their way to ensure your honeymoon is romantic and private. Villas are modern with open-air bathrooms, and this is one of the best house reefs in the Maldives. Your personal beach chairs have screening either side so you’ll feel like you’re experiencing the endless blue beauty all by yourselves.
Baros Maldives. Very romantic resort, beautiful Spa, perfect couples retreat. Rooms are large and very well appointed. Fantastic restaurants including a fine dining over water restaurant. Live music at night in the bar.
Centara Ras Fushi Resort & Spa. This is a very reasonably priced 4 star resort with a swim up bar and evening entertainment. Packages come standard with Half Board including drinks, but it is inexpensive to upgrade to All Inclusive.
Huvafen Fushi Maldives. This is a luxurious but understated resort. The food and service is exceptional, and the daily free stingray feeding is a lovely experience. Being one of the older resorts it has a very established house reef, so the snorkeling is superb. The underwater Spa is a must do.
Kandima Maldives. This is a 5 star resort which is quite youth oriented. It promotes itself as playful and funky, so perfect for honeymooners and younger, child-free couples. There are DJs by the pool and at the bar and the style of the hotel is very hip and laid back. It has the longest pool in the Maldives at 100 metres. There are a total of 10 restaurants and bars, offering more choice than most Maldivian resorts. Packages come standard with Half Board, but the upgrade costs to All Inclusive are reasonable.
OBLU SELECT at Sangeli. Brand new resort opening in July 2018. Rooms are very large in size with plenty of privacy. There is a separate adults-only island with overwater honeymoon suites. Recognised by CNN Travel as one of the hot new hotels to watch.
OZEN by Atmosphere at Maadhoo. This is an All Inclusive 5 star resort, which was opened in July 2016. Modern with great facilities and a high end meal plan with fine dining and top end beverages.
Six Senses Laamu. This resort is on the larger size with 97 rooms and 4 restaurants and 2 bars. It is a barefoot luxury vibe with a DJ in the evenings and is known as a great surfing spot.
Taj Exotica Resort & Spa. Feel totally indulged at this 5 star resort. You’ll have your own personal butler, and nothing is too much trouble. Feel like dinner floating in the lagoon – no problem. Want your sunglasses polished while you’re lounging on the sand. Sure. There’s plenty of privacy and this is one of the most romantic resorts in the Maldives.
